Exercising Personal Accountability
Time Flies: You're the Pilot
It's easy to lose sight of the relationship between our choices, our actions, and the outcomes we experience. So much happens in the course of a day, a week, a month…it can be downright mind-numbing. We set goals for ourselves and a month later we've completely forgotten what they were. The challenge is to keep up with the pace of our crazy busy lives without losing sight of the goals that move us in the direction of happiness.
By becoming responsible for the choices we make, we take our destiny into our own hands.
Try this: Reflect on an area of your life where you'd like to create a different result. Write down exactly what you'd like to change. Be specific. Next, make a list of all the choices you've made in the last 12 months that were in conflict with this desire. Revisit the decisions you made that moved you away from achieving the result you had in mind.
Next, imagine making different choices for every miss-step on the list you just created. Envision empowering choices that fill you with energy and a sense of pride. Write these choices down on a list entitled: Flight Plan for a Fresh Start.
When you feel ready, select two choices from this list you can make this week that will move you closer to the result you desire. Our lives as they exist right now are the result of every choice we've made up to this point. The choices we make - today, tomorrow, and every day after - will either keep us stuck repeating the patterns of our past or they'll move us powerfully toward fresh possibilities. It's up to you. Where are you flying?
